Picture Book-Related Projects

Nami Island Arts & Education manages various projects related to picture books and picture book illustrations. Some of the organization’s major events include the Nami Island International Children‘s Book Festival, participated in by illustrators from dozens of countries, and the Nami Concours, the largest picture book illustration competition in Asia.

In 2005, Nami Island launched the Nami Island International Children‘s Book Festival in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth. In 2009, this led to the island being named an official sponsor of the Hans Christian Andersen Awards, organized by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY). In 2014, in recognition of its sponsorship, Nami Island was awarded the Jella Lepman Medal, named after the founder of the IBBY.
