The Nami Island International Children‘s Book Festival was launched in 2005 in celebration of the 200th anniversary of Hans Christian Andersen’s birth and is Korea’s largest children’s book and cultural festival. The event is hosted by the NAMBOOK International Committee and is jointly organized by Nami Island Arts & Education and Nami Island with sponsorship by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY).

At the festival, various exhibitions, performances, and hands-on activities are held, all of which are based on the theme of world fairytales and picture books. In 2009, in connection with this event, Nami Island was named an official sponsor of the Hans Christian Andersen Awards, organized by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY), and has remained an official sponsor ever since. In 2014, in recognition of its sponsorship, Nami Island was awarded the Jella Lepman Medal, named after the founder of the IBBY.
