Whale, a Symbol of Freedom and Peace

The average depth of the ocean is 4,000 meters. In other words, whales have more space to float than do birds in the sky. In the ocean world, where neither walls nor fences exist, whales swim around freely without any boundaries, languorously feeding itself a huge mouthful of food.

Being so gigantic in size, whales don't have any natural enemies. The freedom and peace symbolized by whales are the values that traditional folk painters have always tried to pursue. Although whales are hard to be found in the remaining folk paintings, Jeongmin Shin managed to reproduce them in the Korean traditional folk paintings.
