In 2005, the first NAMBOOK Festival (Nami Island International Children’s Book Festival) was held in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of H.C. Andersen’s birth.
In September 2018, the Hans Christian Andersen Musuem (Odense Bys Museer) in Denmark and Nami Island Arts & Education (NAE) agreed to establish a partnership to contribute to the advancement of world children’s literature by revealing and rediscovering H.C. Andersen’s life and his stories through a series of collaborative projects: a project during the 2019 NAMBOOK Festival and another during the H.C. Andersen Museum’s reopening ceremony in 2020.
During the 2019 NAMBOOK Festival, the Andersen’s Fairy Land from the Little Mermaid to the Wild Swans exhibition depicted the fairytales of H.C. Andersen, adding depth to the commemorative year of Denmark and Korea.
Since the MOU, NAE and H.C. Andersen Museum are strengthening the cultural partnership via collaborative projects featuring H.C. Andersen.
